Introduction to Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
What is PBIS, you ask? PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and is a framework that helps improve student outcomes by focusing on social, emotional, and behaviors supports. Development of PBIS is funded by the Office of Special Education Programs – for more information you can visit the PIBS webpage: click here.
It is important to understand the framework of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) before moving on to the other modules. PBIS follows a 3-tiered system that starts with universal proactive supports (Tier 1) that all students can benefit from to supports that are more intensive and individualized (Tier 3) for students with more significant behavioral issues.
